For the participants of the Nalacs Conference ‘Cities and Citizenship in Latin America and the Caribbean’ who are already in Delft and all other interested people, Nalacs, in collaboration with Caribbean Creativity and our Muchachas Borrachas, organize a conference warming on Wednesday evening June 15th in Filmhuis Lumen with the screening of FIGHTING FOR PEACE.

FIGHTING FOR PEACE (72 min) is a feature-lenght documentary about a boxing school located in one of Rio’s most violent slums, which provides young people with an alternative to a life in the drug trade. For a year EMMY and BAFTA winning filmmakers Joost van der Valk and Mags Gavan follow Sugar (15) and Douglas (14) on their quest to become national boxing champions. Both boys are literally trying to fight their way out.

Dir.: Joost van der Valk & Mags Gavan
Completed: October 2015
Language: English/Portuguese (with English subtitles)

Participants of the conference are able to obtain a free ticket for the film upon arrival at the theatre. All other people can purchase a ticket at the cashier. The venue for the screening is Filmhuis Lumen, Doelenplein 5, 2611 BD Delft, www.filmhuis-lumen.nl.
