This time we focus on the issue of 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻, and the question ‘𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻?’ To this end, we present a 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 of 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 (2026, 30′), a new documentary by Dutch filmmaking duo 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 and 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗿 in collaboration with the 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗝𝗮𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗠) and recent Grammy-winning reggae artiste 𝗞𝗲𝘇𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗱𝗶. In addition, we will be screening 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 (2022, 23′, 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲), a short documentary by 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘂, made in collaboration with 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘆, exploring gentrification, rising housing prices, and decreasing beach access in 𝗣𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗼.

Following the screening of both films, there will be a 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 increasingly limited 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 as a result of 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻, including in 𝗔𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮, 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲 and 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗰̧𝗮𝗼. 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 (2026) is a new documentary by Dutch filmmaking duo 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 and 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗿 in collaboration with 𝗝𝗮𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗠 and 𝗞𝗲𝘇𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗱𝗶 exploring the growing struggle for beach access in Jamaica. Since the 1950s, public access to the island’s beaches has steadily declined, leaving less than one percent of the coastline publicly accessible for Jamaicans. Over the decades, most of Jamaica’s beaches have been captured by private and tourist interests, and particularly since the 2000s large-scale hotel developments have limited beach access for Jamaicans. This film follows the grassroots movement resisting the privatization of Jamaican beaches by zooming in on three frontline struggles: Bob Marley Beach near Kingston, the Blue Lagoon in the parish of Portland, and Mammee Bay Beach on the island’s North Coast. The interviewees, all Jamaicans, reveal how the 1956 Beach Control Act, which is still in effect today, vests ownership of the foreshore in the Jamaican state (and actually the British Crown) and traces how this colonial-era law, combined with the island’s all-inclusive tourism model, has displaced communities, disrupted livelihoods, and degraded environments. Interwoven with archival footage, news clips, and recordings of protest rallies and court cases, the interviewees situate today’s beach access struggles within Jamaica’s troubled history of land ownership following emancipation and independence. They argue that the island’s tourism industry replicates plantation logic by monopolizing land, concentrating wealth, exporting profits, and, ultimately, marginalizing the people. 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗲 shows that beach access, which is not only an issue in Jamaica but across the Caribbean and beyond, is an urgent matter of historical, economic, social, cultural and environmental justice, raising the question of who the so-called ‘tropical paradise’ of sun, sand, and sea truly serves, and at what cost…

In the short documentary 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 (2022, 23′, 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲), Puerto Rican journalist 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘂 examines the forces transforming 𝗣𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗼 and threatening to displace the people who call the island home. Through the experiences of residents of a marginalized urban neighborhood facing growing pressures of displacement, the film explores the impacts of 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 to attract wealthy outsiders, while many Puerto Ricans struggle to afford housing in their own communities. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗞𝗷𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗱 𝗞𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗻
Kjelld Masoud Kroon is a program maker, thinker, and community organizer from the Dutch Caribbean. Born in the Netherlands and raised in Bonaire’s oldest town, Rincon, he carries a deep connection to Caribbean life and culture. Through his community and creative work, Kroon develops programs on decolonisation, antiracism, identity, and diaspora, where he shares spaces for reflection, creativity, and connection, both in the Netherlands and on Bonaire. In addition, he serves on the youth advisory council BIT-Lab, providing policy advice to the Public Entity Bonaire from a young person’s perspective. Kroon is also one of eight plaintiffs in the landmark climate case against the Dutch state, supported by Greenpeace. In a historic ruling, the court recognised that the government had long discriminated against Bonairians by denying us the same climate protections as European Netherlands, leaving our island vulnerable to sea level rise, flooding, and the loss of nature and cultural heritage. This was the first time Caribbean Dutch citizens successfully demanded equal safeguards. Kroon’s activism bridges decolonial thinking with today’s pressing social and environmental challenges. He challenges unequal power structures, strengthen communities, and is driven by a vision of dignity, justice, and cultural pride for his home, Bonaire.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗝𝗮𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗠
JaBBEM (Jamaica Beach Birthright Environmental Movement) is a grassroots movement dedicated to protecting Jamaica’s coastal ecosystems while affirming the inherent right of all people to access, enjoy, and steward the island’s beaches. Rooted in the belief that Jamaica’s shores are part of a shared cultural and ecological inheritance, JaBBEM advocates against land privatization, tourism development, environmental degradation, and exclusionary practices that limit public access to coastal spaces. The movement brings together community members, environmental activists, cultural practitioners, and youth to promote sustainable coastal management, climate resilience, and environmental justice. Through beach cleanups, public education campaigns, policy advocacy, and cultural events, JaBBEM highlights the interconnectedness of ecological preservation and social equity. JaBBEM considers beaches not just as natural resources, but as vital spaces of history, identity, and community life – places where heritage, livelihood, and environmental responsibility meet. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗞𝗲𝘇𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗱𝗶
Keznamdi is a Kingston-born Jamaican reggae artist, singer-songwriter, and producer known for blending roots reggae with contemporary sounds influenced by soul, hip-hop, and African musical traditions. Raised in a deeply musical family and shaped by experiences across Jamaica, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and the United States, he has become a leading voice within Jamaica’s reggae revival movement. Known for songs such as ‘Pressure,’ ‘Time,’ and ‘Grade,’ Keznamdi’s music explores themes of identity, spirituality, social justice, and liberation. He is also a collaborator and supporter of the documentary Beach Inna Bondage, contributing both his music and voice, and especially his song ‘Colonial Bondage,’ to the film’s message around public beach access, land rights, and environmental justice in Jamaica. Deze keer richten we ons op de kwestie van de 𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗲𝗱 en op de vraag: ‘𝘄𝗶𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗷𝗸 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼?’ Hiervoor presenteren we een 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗲 van 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 (2026, 30′), de nieuwe documentaire van het Nederlandse filmmakersduo 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 en 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗿, gemaakt in samenwerking met de 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗝𝗮𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗠) en de onlangs met een Grammy bekroonde reggae-artiest 𝗞𝗲𝘇𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗱𝗶. Daarnaast vertonen we ook 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 (2022, 23′, 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲), een korte documentaire van 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘂, gemaakt in samenwerking met 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘆, over gentrificatie, stijgende huizenprijzen, en beperktere strandtoegang in 𝗣𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗼.

Na de vertoning van beide films zal er een gesprek plaatsvinden over de steeds verder beperkte 𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻 als gevolg van 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 en de rest van het 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗲𝗱, waaronder ook 𝗔𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮, 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲 en 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗰̧𝗮𝗼. Aan de discussie (in het Engels), gemodereerd door radiohost en cultureel producent 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗿, nemen de filmmakers deel, die net zijn teruggekeerd van een jaar filmmaken in Jamaica, samen met verschillende andere panelleden en het publiek. Ze gaan met elkaar in gesprek over de manier waarop deze 𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗷𝗸𝗲, 𝗼𝗻𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝘁𝘃𝗮𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲 𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘂𝗿𝘇𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗸𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻 de toegang tot kustgebieden (en ander land) in het Caribisch gebied veranderen – en wat er aan gedaan kan worden. 🙏🏿🖤✊🏿

𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗲 (2026) is een nieuwe documentaire van het Nederlandse filmmakersduo 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 en 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗿, gemaakt in samenwerking met 𝗝𝗮𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗠 en 𝗞𝗲𝘇𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗱𝗶, over de groeiende strijd om toegang tot stranden in Jamaica. Sinds de jaren vijftig is de publieke toegang tot de stranden van het eiland gestaag afgenomen, waardoor minder dan één procent van de kustlijn nog openbaar toegankelijk is voor Jamaicanen. In de loop der decennia zijn de meeste stranden van Jamaica in handen gekomen van private partijen en toeristische belangen. Vooral sinds de jaren 2000 hebben grootschalige hotelontwikkelingen de toegang tot stranden voor Jamaicanen verder beperkt. De film volgt de grassrootsbeweging die zich verzet tegen de privatisering van Jamaicaanse stranden en zoomt in op drie frontlinies van deze strijd: Bob Marley Beach nabij Kingston, de Blue Lagoon in de parish Portland en Mammee Bay Beach aan de noordkust van het eiland. De geïnterviewden, allemaal Jamaicanen, leggen uit hoe de Beach Control Act uit 1956, die vandaag de dag nog steeds van kracht is, het eigendom van de kuststrook bij de Jamaicaanse staat (en feitelijk de Britse Kroon) legt. Ze laten zien hoe deze wet uit het koloniale tijdperk, in combinatie met het all-inclusive toerismemodel van het eiland, gemeenschappen heeft verdreven, bestaansmiddelen heeft aangetast en ecosystemen heeft beschadigd. Aan de hand van archiefbeelden, nieuwsfragmenten en opnames van protestbijeenkomsten en rechtszaken plaatsen de geïnterviewden de huidige strijd om toegang tot stranden binnen Jamaica’s problematische geschiedenis van grondbezit na de afschaffing van de slavernij en de onafhankelijkheid. Zij stellen dat de toeristische industrie van het eiland de logica van de plantage reproduceert door land te monopoliseren, rijkdom te concentreren, winsten weg te sluizen en uiteindelijk de bevolking te marginaliseren. 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗲 laat zien dat toegang tot stranden – iets wat niet alleen in Jamaica speelt, maar in het hele Caribisch gebied en ver daarbuiten – een urgente kwestie is van historische, economische, sociale, culturele en ecologische rechtvaardigheid. De film stelt daarmee de vraag voor wie het zogenaamde ‘tropische paradijs’ van zon, zee en strand daadwerkelijk bedoeld is, en tegen welke prijs…

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲
In de korte documentaire 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 (2022, 23′, 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲) onderzoekt de Puerto Ricaanse journalist 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘂 de krachten die 𝗣𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗼 veranderen en de mensen die het eiland hun thuis noemen dreigen te verdrijven. Aan de hand van de ervaringen van bewoners van een gemarginaliseerde stadswijk, die te maken krijgen met een toenemende druk om plaats te maken, onderzoekt de film de gevolgen van 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲, 𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲, 𝘃𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗴𝗼𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗸𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 en 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘃𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗻 die vermogende buitenstaanders moeten aantrekken, terwijl veel Puerto Ricanen moeite hebben om huisvesting in hun eigen gemeenschappen te kunnen blijven betalen. 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 werd uitgebracht in samenhang met het nummer 𝗘𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻 van 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘆 en gebruikt het wereldwijde bereik van een van Puerto Rico’s grootste artiesten om Caribische stemmen van verzet te versterken. Urgent en tegelijkertijd diep geworteld in liefde voor het eiland biedt de film een krachtig portret van Caribische gemeenschappen die worden geconfronteerd met onzekerheid, zich verzetten tegen verdringing en hun recht opeisen om te blijven. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗷𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗱 𝗞𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗻
Kjelld Masoud Kroon is programmamaker, denker en community-organizer uit Caribisch Nederland. Hij werd geboren in Nederland en groeide op in Rincon, de oudste plaats van Bonaire, en heeft een diepe verbondenheid met het Caribische leven en de Caribische cultuur. Via zijn maatschappelijke en creatieve werk ontwikkelt Kroon programma’s rond dekolonisatie, antiracisme, identiteit en diaspora, waarin hij ruimte creëert voor reflectie, creativiteit en verbinding, zowel in Nederland als op Bonaire. Daarnaast is hij lid van de jongerenadviesraad BIT-Lab, van waaruit hij het Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire vanuit het perspectief van jongeren van beleidsadvies voorziet. Kroon is ook een van de acht eisers in de baanbrekende klimaatzaak tegen de Nederlandse staat, ondersteund door Greenpeace. In een historische uitspraak erkende de rechter dat de overheid Bonairianen lange tijd heeft gediscrimineerd door hun niet dezelfde klimaatbescherming te bieden als inwoners van Europees Nederland, waardoor het eiland kwetsbaar is voor zeespiegelstijging, overstromingen en het verlies van natuur en cultureel erfgoed. Het was de eerste keer dat inwoners van Caribisch Nederland met succes gelijke bescherming afdwongen. Kroons activisme verbindt dekoloniaal denken met de urgente sociale en ecologische uitdagingen van vandaag. Hij stelt ongelijke machtsstructuren ter discussie, zet zich in voor het versterken van gemeenschappen en wordt gedreven door een visie van waardigheid, rechtvaardigheid en culturele trots voor zijn thuis, Bonaire.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗠
JaBBEM (Jamaica Beach Birthright Environmental Movement) is een grassrootsbeweging die zich inzet voor de bescherming van Jamaica’s kustecosystemen en tegelijkertijd het fundamentele recht van iedereen verdedigt om toegang te hebben tot de stranden van het eiland, ervan te genieten en er zorg voor te dragen. Vanuit de overtuiging dat de Jamaicaanse kust deel uitmaakt van een gedeeld cultureel en ecologisch erfgoed, verzet JaBBEM zich tegen de privatisering van land, toeristische ontwikkeling, aantasting van het milieu en uitsluitende praktijken die de publieke toegang tot kustgebieden beperken. De beweging brengt lokale gemeenschappen, milieuactivisten, culturele organisaties en jongeren samen om duurzaam kustbeheer, klimaatbestendigheid en ecologische rechtvaardigheid te bevorderen. Door middel van strandschoonmaakacties, publiekscampagnes, beleidsbeïnvloeding en culturele evenementen benadrukt JaBBEM de nauwe samenhang tussen ecologische bescherming en sociale rechtvaardigheid. JaBBEM beschouwt stranden niet alleen als natuurlijke hulpbronnen, maar ook als essentiële plekken van geschiedenis, identiteit en gemeenschapsleven—plaatsen waar erfgoed, levensonderhoud en verantwoordelijkheid voor het milieu samenkomen. Door lokale stemmen te mobiliseren en collectieve actie te stimuleren, streeft de beweging ernaar ervoor te zorgen dat Jamaica’s stranden beschermd, toegankelijk en vitaal blijven voor huidige en toekomstige generaties. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗲𝘇𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗱𝗶
Keznamdi is een in Kingston geboren Jamaicaanse reggae-artiest, singer-songwriter en producer die bekendstaat om zijn combinatie van rootsreggae en hedendaagse klanken, beïnvloed door soul, hiphop en Afrikaanse muzikale tradities. Hij groeide op in een muzikale familie en werd gevormd door ervaringen in Jamaica, Tanzania, Ethiopië en de Verenigde Staten. Inmiddels geldt hij als een belangrijke stem binnen Jamaica’s reggae-revivalbeweging. In nummers als ‘Pressure’, ‘Time’ en ‘Grade’ behandelt Keznamdi thema’s als identiteit, spiritualiteit, sociale rechtvaardigheid en bevrijding. Daarnaast is hij partner en supporter van de documentaire 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗲 en draagt hij met zijn muziek en stem, met name via zijn nummer ‘Colonial Bondage’, bij aan de boodschap van de film over publieke toegang tot stranden, landrechten en ecologische rechtvaardigheid in Jamaica. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆
Caribbean Creativity is een culturele non-profitorganisatie gevestigd in Kingston en Amsterdam, die zich richt op de productie, programmering en promotie van Caribische cinema en films met een Caribisch thema. In de loop der jaren heeft Caribbean Creativity meer dan 350 filmvertoningen georganiseerd in bioscopen en op filmfestivals, waaronder talrijke premières. In 2020 lanceerde de organisatie YardVibes, een streamingplatform waarop werk van onafhankelijke Caribische en Afrikaanse filmmakers wordt vertoond. YardVibes biedt momenteel meer dan 100 titels, waaronder speelfilms, webseries, documentaires en korte films, waarbij maandelijks nieuwe content wordt toegevoegd. Africadelic is een in Amsterdam gevestigde non-profitorganisatie en platform dat zich inzet voor de programmering en promotie van Afrikaanse en Afrikaans-diasporische culturele creativiteit, diversiteit en activisme, zowel in Nederland als daarbuiten. Het jaarlijkse Africadelic Festival is een ode aan het Afrikaanse continent en zijn wereldwijde diaspora en viert de culturele rijkdom en diepgaande invloed van Afrodescendents, mensen van Afrikaanse afkomst, op de mondiale cultuur en samenleving.
