Caribbean Creativity is an Amsterdam-based non-profit organization that, since 2008, is committed to the programming and promotion of Caribbean and Caribbean-themed cinema in the Netherlands. Africadelic is a non-profit organization that, since 2016, is committed to the programming and promotion of African and African diasporic cultural creativity, diversity and activism in the Netherlands. Each year on and around International Africa Day (May 25), they organize the Africacadelic Festival in Paradiso and various other partner venues across Amsterdam. Deze film is daarmee een historisch momentopname van het carnaval in de jaren โ50, en biedt unieke inzichten in de betekenis van het festival.

Als reactie op de rassenrellen in Notting Hill in 1958 organiseerde Jones in januari 1959 een indoor Caribisch carnaval in het St Pancras Town Hall. Dit evenement, met calypso, steelbands en dans, wordt gezien als het begin van het Notting Hill Carnival.

De film combineert archiefmateriaal met hedendaagse scรจnes om de ontwikkeling van het carnaval van 1966 tot nu te laten zien. De documentaire belicht de vijf kernvormen van het carnaval, masquerade, calypso, soca, steelpan en sound systems, en biedt een interessante kijk op het hart van de Caribische cultuur in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.

Caribbean Creativity is een non-profitorganisatie in Amsterdam die sinds 2008 werkt aan de programmering en promotie van Caribische en Caribisch-geรฏnspireerde cinema in Nederland. Door de jaren heen heeft Caribbean Creativity meer dan 300 filmvertoningen georganiseerd in bioscopen en op filmfestivals, waaronder talrijke premiรจres. In 2020 organiseerden ze hun eerste filmfestival, het Marley75 Film Festival, in Melkweg Cinema en diverse andere locaties in Amsterdam. Datzelfde jaar lanceerden ze YardVibes, een streamingplatform met content van onafhankelijke Caribische en Afrikaanse filmmakers, waarop meer dan 100 titels beschikbaar zijn en online filmprogrammaโs worden aangeboden, zoals het jaarlijkse Global Extraction Film Festival (2020-2022). Africadelic is een non-profitorganisatie die zich sinds 2016 inzet voor de programmering en promotie van Afrikaanse en Afrikaanse diasporische culturele creativiteit, diversiteit en activisme in Nederland. Jaarlijks organiseren ze rond Internationale Afrikadag (25 mei) het Africadelic Festival in Paradiso en diverse andere partnerlocaties in Amsterdam. Dit jaar vond de 10e editie van het festival plaats van 21-31 mei 2025, met speciale aandacht voor het 50-jarig jubileum van de onafhankelijkheid (1975) van vijf Afrikaanse landen (Angola, Mozambique, Kaapverdiรซ, Sรฃo Tomรฉ & Prรญncipe en de Comoren) en Suriname.
