Deep Blue is a feature-length drama from Antigua and Barbuda that weaves together a compelling love story with the urgent issues of environmental activism and land rights in the Caribbean. When the architect leading a proposed luxury resort development on a small island falls in love with a Canadian marine biologist determined to stop the project, a powerful conflict unfolds. Their relationship becomes entangled in a larger struggle between developers and a close-knit fishing community fighting to protect both their traditional way of life and a fragile marine ecosystem. As climate change places increasing pressure on the island, the stakes grow ever higher, forcing the couple onto opposing sides of a battle over the future of the community. Featuring a cast from Antigua, Canada, and England, Deep Blue shines a light on the challenges Caribbean communities face in resisting large-scale developments that threaten the ecological and cultural integrity of their islands.

Join us on 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟮 in 𝗕𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 in 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 for a 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 in support of 𝗛𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳. 

𝗟𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲, a small village near Montego Bay, Jamaica, was, like many other places on the island, devastated by Hurricane Melissa. Homes, farms, and livelihoods were destroyed, leaving the once lush community struggling to rebuild. Many local raftsmen and farmers have lost their means of income, and tourism has come to a halt. The 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆, who have lived in 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲 for generations, are helping lead the recovery.

This Saturday, we’ll be hosting a 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, twice (once in the late afternoon, once in the early evening) accompanied by 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀, as a 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁. All proceeds will go directly to rebuilding homes, restoring farms, and supporting local raftsmen as they rebuild their livelihoods. We extend our deepest 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 to everyone across 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 impacted by 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮. Our hearts are especially with 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮, where Melissa struck as one of the most powerful hurricanes on record.

The 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 across the island was and is immense, particularly in the western parishes. The hurricane created a 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, ravaging buildings, roads and vegetation, and bringing over 1m of rainfall and storm surges up to 4m. Melissa left much 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 in its wake, but 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻. As Portland876 so beautifully expressed, ’we have faced storms before, and each time, the 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 has proven unbreakable. From the mountains to the coastlines, our strength lies in our 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, our 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, and our 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 for each other.’

This spirit extends to 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻. To use the words of Exceptional Caribbean, ‘𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮 has torn through 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 and 𝗖𝘂𝗯𝗮, and now heads toward the 𝗕𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘀 (…), but even in the eye of the storm, the 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻. (…) And when the wind settles, we will rise – with 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, and exceptional 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵.’ They also remind us that hurricanes are not merely natural but 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 – the result of 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 and 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: ‘Our islands contribute less than 1% of global emissions, yet we are hit hardest by hurricanes, rising seas, and bleaching reefs.’

Jamaica and the other islands affected, particularly Cuba and Haiti, will need 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱, however, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, but 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, acknowledging their 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 and 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in the face of 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀. Together, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻…
